When are you on duty?
We are on duty every night of the academic year from 5pm-8am. This does not include academic holidays (winter, spring breaks) and finals week.
What do you do while on duty?
We have an office in Casa Italiana Residence Hall where we sleep overnight. In between running calls, we train, get dinner, work on homework, etc.
Do you get paid?
We are a fully volunteer organization, so none of our EMTs get paid.
Do we write up residents?
We do not issue write-ups, fines, or any sort of disciplinary actions on our patients.
What are the policies for students who call about an emergency?
Medical Amnesty and Good Samaritan are in place so that students will not hesitate to call the EMTs when someone is intoxicated and needs medical attention.
We currently have 3 golf carts to transport ourselves and our gear to the scene of each incident. Our average response time is under 3 minutes anywhere on campus.
How can I support SCU EMS?
If you want to help support our student run volunteer organization, you may reach out to our donation contact via email at [email protected]. We are also participating in SCU's Day of Giving, but you can donate early on this site. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
What is the patient privacy policy?
SCU EMS adheres to the privacy regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is prohibited for SCU EMS or any SCU EMS EMT to disclose any identifiable information about our patients to anyone other than hospital personnel.

- Medical Amnesty: Allows for the reduction of disciplinary consequences for students who receive medical attention due to alcohol intoxication and/or alcohol poisoning.
- Medical Amnesty: If a student in need of EMS for an alcohol related emergency has had no prior alcohol violations they may be granted Medical Amnesty regardless of how the response was initiated.
- Good Samaritan: The elimination of disciplinary consequences for a student(s) who may be under the influence of alcohol who make(s) a good-faith call for medical help on behalf of a fellow student.
- In order to be protected under the Good Samaritan policy you must stay with the student requiring medical attention.*
