Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Training
Every year during spring quarter, SCU EMS hosts a large-scale MCI training event. This "Mass Casualty Incident" gives SCU EMS the opportunity to test our ability to respond to a large-scale medical emergency. It also gives the students and EMT's in training of Santa Clara University the opportunity to meet the squad, see how it functions, and participate in an interesting and educational activity. The practice MCI is performed in coordination with University officials, local EMS responders, Police Officers, and Fire Department personnel.
Volunteers are always needed to serve as patients for the MCI event. Volunteers are disguised with make-up and fake injuries to appear as though they have been part of a traumatic event. They are then given a small slip of paper with certain vitals signs listed that they are to report to any medical staff that ask. All "patients" are escorted to various places in the location of the MCI and asked to behave (with the exception of reporting vital signs) exactly as they assume they would given the injury they are supposed to have. The more real "patients" can make the event seem, the better training the event is for SCU EMS.
To volunteer to help with the MCI, or to inquire about the exact dates and times of the event, contact our PR Officer during spring quarter here.

CPR Class
SCU EMS is committed to help keep Santa Clara University healthy and safe. Our student-led CPR Class is one of the many ways we live out this mission. It is our goal to help make Santa Clara University a certified HEARTSafe Community. Participants in the class will receive training in: First aid, Medical and Trauma Emergencies, CPR and AED skills.
The class will take place in two phases: an online portion which can be done at your own pace and will take between 3-4 hours in total, and an in-class portion taking place from 9am-1pm on the dates listed. The online portion needs to be completed and the certificate printed before coming to the class. The class is only offered to students, faculty, and staff of Santa Clara University. Upon completion of both portions of the class, students will receive a First Aid/CPR/AED certification card that is compliant with state and federal OHSA guidelines.
